The annual Georgetown French Market will be returning on Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1The outdoor bazaar – now in its 13th year – will span across Georgetown’s Book Hill neighborhood between P Street and Reservoir Road NW, and allow attendees the opportunity to eat, drink, and shop the best of local French culture.

DC’s Funniest Cinco de Mayo Celebration is Back!

Why:      A benefit for local animal charities and a hilarious way to celebrate Cinco

What:    Chihuahua races, food trucks, beer stands, live music, dog contests, a family friendly FREE event!

 

Kick off Cinco de Mayo at the Fifth Annual Running of the Chihuahuas! 1pm – 4pm on Sunday, May 1st at The Wharf – DC’s amazing new destination taking shape on the southwest waterfront. The Running of the Chihuahuas is part of DC’s best Cinco de Mayo celebration, an afternoon that includes great food from Sol Mexican, Red Hook and Captain Cookie food trucks, cold beer, live music from Sly 45 and of course, the races.

 

The highlight of the afternoon, the races feature 96 Chihuahuas racing in groups of eight on a sixty foot “race track.”  All the action is captured on a 17 foot Jumbotron screen and the winners take home $500 in cash and prizes.  ALL race proceeds benefit Rural Dog Rescue – a non-profit organization dedicated to pulling dogs from high-kill rural shelters.

 

Don’t have a Chihuahua? You can still take part in the excitement with the all-breed contests for best dressed dog and best trick! There will be local vendors and giveaways from DC’s pet friendly businesses.

SerbFest DC @ Saint Luke Serbian Orthodox Church

Presented by  Saint Luke Serbian Orthodox Church of Potomac, MD—the epicenter for Serbian culture in and around Washington, DC—the three-day festival spans an entire weekend, taking place from Friday, May 13 through Sunday, May 15. The first annual SerbFest DC was held last October and this year’s event once again aims to educate the community on and bring attention to authentic Serbian cuisine, customs and culture.

 

SerbFest DC Spring 2016 truly has something for everyone, including traditional Serbian dishes, beverages, dance and music performances, gifts and boutique items and family-friendly activities.  In addition, admission and parking are free, an indoor setup has been arranged in case of inclement weather and all a la carte food item proceeds benefit Saint Luke Serbian Orthodox Church .

Our cultural center, the Former Residence of the Ambassadors of Spain, will open its doors on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a taste of the best Spain has to offer. With this event the Embassy is participating in the initiative “Shortcut to Europe: European Union Embassies’ Open House”, organized by the Delegation of the EU to the US.

 

The open house will coincide with a special exhibition called “Spanish Illustrators: The Color of Optimism,” featuring the works of the most relevant contemporary illustrators in our country. Curated by journalist and cultural manager Mario Suarez, the exhibition aims to discover and recognize a generation of young artists who frequently contribute to national and international publications, galleries, museums and commercial firms.

On Saturday, June 4Nationals Park and Budweiser will host a Washington Nationals vs. Cincinnati Reds viewing party at 3 p.m. The first 1,000 fans to enter the park will catch the game on the NatsHD big screen from the outfield grass. Concessions will be available for purchase throughout the entire viewing party — including $5 Budweiser and Bud Light happy hour specials.

Restricted items: While chairs, alcohol and soft drinks will not be allowed on the field, alcohol and soft drinks purchased at the event may be consumed along the warning track on the field level.

Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival @ National Harbor

The annual Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival, produced by The Trigger Agency, is returning to National Harbor on Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18, and is set to benefit Spirt of Hope Children’s Foundation.

“This show is a fun departure for adults who enjoy all things Southern… from the best beers and bourbons to barbecue, banjoes, bluegrass and more,” said festival founder Greg Nivens. “This year will mark the largest show we have ever produced with more than 250 exhibits and tasting tables.”

Admission includes a souvenir glass for unlimited tastings of more than 60 of the best craft beers and 40 top-notch bourbons.  In addition, delicious BBQ restaurants from the area will be on-site cultivating their most scrumptious Southern BBQ dishes.  The event will offer live music, arts, crafts and memorabilia exhibits.

Here is just a “taste” of what guests will experience:

  • The Shrine of Swine is Back – but the whole hogs are always intriguing and new. Each hog is totally different and offer a unique taste.
  • New Gaming area including Corn Hole, Tricycle Racing, Large Format Games
  • Live Music featuring The Risches Bluegrass Nation, The Sauce Boss and more
  • Competitions on the Main Stage including The Stein Hold Competition, The Drink Like a Lady Competition and Bacon Eating!

General admission is $35 in advance/$45 on-site and includes admission to the event and souvenir glass. Vine on the Waterfront Food & Wine Festival @ Old Town’s waterfront at Oronoco Bay Park

The annual Vine on the Waterfront Food & Wine Festival is set to return this summer on Saturday, June 25th. Formally known as the Alexandria Food & Wine Festival, the festival will take place from 12:00PM -6:00PM on Old Town’s waterfront at Oronoco Bay Park and will expand to include both restaurants within Alexandria and other eateries throughout the region.

 

The festival is a community-based event featuring tastes of local foods and wine, as well as artisans, a Children’s Corner, and live entertainment by Justin Trawick & The Common Goods and Allan Scott Band. The event will transform Oronoco Bay Park into a lively festival easily accessible by car, Metrorail or Dash Bus.

 

Attendees will be able to sample food and wine from a variety of local restaurants and Virginia’s wineries.  Local restaurants will compete for the best appetizer, the best main course and the best dessert – judged by notable DC foodie judges (to be announced soon).
