On July 26, 2015, 3 Stars Brewing Company will host their 3rd annual Artists & Artisans Summer Jam from 2-6 p.m. The perfect way to celebrate summer, this yearly event is a showcase of local entrepreneurs and craftsmen. 3 Stars turns the brewery into a “locavore market” packed with local food trucks, chefs, artists, musicians, distillers and designers who’ve set up shop to show off their products.
DC-grown and community-driven, 3 Stars promotes small DC businesses through one-of-a-kind events such as these, bringing people together and growing our local scene.
The vendors for this year’s party are a who’s who of local craft, including: Rappahannock River Oysters, Swizzler Food Truck, Dirty South Deli, Greenhat Distilling, Leopold Brothers Spirits, Sloppy Mama’s BBQ, Jerkface Artisan Jerky, Chup’s Fruit Ketchup, Crushing Apparel and many more. In addition to DJ’s spinning classic hits, there will also be a live performance from a yet-as named talent.
In addition to all of the food and beverage from outside sources, 3 Stars will be unlocking their cellar and pouring a ton of rare and exclusive beers. There will also be a few specialty casks to round out the portfolio—making this a craft beer lover’s dream come true.
Tickets are $15 and include admission, a custom goblet, and your first beer. After that everything is à la carte, so guests can consume and spend as much, or as little, as they like.
This is a 21+ event and proper ID is required. Children under 10 are also welcome. No pets

Naughty Professor is a forward thinking music endeavor pioneered by six young musicians from around the country, now anchored in New Orleans, Louisiana. Formed in 2011, the band’s mission was to embody the jazz-influenced party culture of the Big Easy in a constantly evolving, high energy funk/soul outfit. Naughty Professors’ live performances, which weave together complex compositions and loose individual improvisation, quickly commanded the attention of many notable musicians in town, including George Porter Jr., Galactic, and The Revivalists. With fresh recorded material in the works and a rigorous tour schedule planned for 2014 and beyond, Naughty Professor is poised to soon become the next household name associated with the echelon of New Orleans music.

With a fiery-hot, funky beat that echoes with the nostalgia of neo-soul and just enough grit to keep you hip thrustin’ and toe tappin’, Washington D.C.’s Aztec Sun’s voltaic performances are the result of the band’s infectious melodies and the rare dynamism of the musicians creating them.
From its inception in 2013, Aztec Sun has grown into an 8-piece ensemble with a sound that evokes a classic ’70s feel played in a new school approach. The band’s culturally diverse background and timelessness of the band’s musical influences create their sound. For 50 years, legendary Georgetown club Blues Alley has played a major role in D.C.’s rich music history, hosting stars like Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Ramsey Lewis, Sarah Vaughan, Wynton Marsalis, Gil Scott-Heron, and hundreds more. The local landmark brings R&B, neo soul, and jazz artists Ángela Winbush, Kindred The Family Soul, and Chelsey Green—a cross-section of the genre’s past, present, and future—to Strathmore for its 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 8 p.m. The evening’s lineup is the continuation of a long collaborative relationship between Blues Alley and Strathmore, and includes Strathmore Artist in Residence alumna Chelsey Greene. The trio of acts is anchored by ’80s R&B icon and Howard University alumna Ángela Winbush. She counts among her credits solo hits such as the number one “Angel,” as well as songs from her musical duo René & Angela, such as “Save Your Love (For #1)” and “Your Smile.” Winbush has informed the work of innumerable R&B and hip-hop artists, including The Notorious B.I.G., Foxy Brown, rapper Sylk-E. Fyne, and singer Avant. Winbush and former partner René Moore, of René & Angela, have the distinction of being one of the first R&B acts to prominently incorporate rap in a popular R&B song. Winbush has also established herself as a versatile, multitalented artist, finding success as a songwriter, arranger, producer, and session musician.
Grammy nominated neo soul duo Kindred the Family Soul is comprised of the husband-and-wife team of Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon. They rose from the Philadelphia neo soul movement, and were discovered by singer Jill Scott. Rooted in soul and gospel, Kindred incorporates nuanced contemporary sounds into their music, advancing the genre forward while building a core audience appreciative of their devotion to a more mature R&B sound.
Similarly innovative is violinist and Strathmore Artist in Residence alumna, violinist Chelsey Green. The Billboard charting artist fuses traditional classical violin technique with pop, jazz, and R&B genre influences. A doctoral candidate at The University of Maryland College Park, Green is early in a career that has already been met with great success, including a performance on The Late Show with David Letterman as well as engagements at Carnegie Hall, Theater at Madison Square Garden, the BET Honors Dinner, Essence Music Festival, The Howard Theatre, Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival and, of course, Blues Alley and Strathmore. She has shared stages with Stevie Wonder, Maysa, MC Lyte, Chrisette Michele, J.Cole, and Questlove and Black Thought of The Roots.
Stretch and sip with Capitol City’s asana and ale! On Monday July 20 at 7 p.m. Capitol City Brewing Company at Shirlington Village will host another beer and yoga event with special local yoga instructor Beth Wolfe. Capitol City Brewing Co. encourages early registrations for Asana and Ale before spots fill up by calling general manager Al Chadsey at: (703) 578-3888. The $15 registration fee covers the 60-minute Vinyasa flow session and a pint at Capitol City following the class.
Participants need to bring a yoga mat, water bottle and towel. Vinyasa instructor, Beth Wolfe suggests that participants wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. The Vinyasa class will be suitable for beginners and experienced students alike. This particular yoga session features an extended standing series of poses, balancing twists and basic sun salutes. All levels of experience are encouraged to come and wind down their Monday with relaxing Vinyasa and Capitol City home crafted beer.
Capitol City Brewing Company at Shirlington Village will be open until 12:00 midnight on Monday July 20 especially for Asana and Ale participants to enjoy post-stretch sips on the Capitol City patio or at the bar and meet other beer-loving yogis in the area.
