Crystal City’s summertime happy hour is back, opening a month early and announcing a new partnership with The Stand  bringing food and beverage from local restaurants and an exciting live music lineup. Starting on May 4, each Friday from 5-9 pm, attendees can listen to live music from a variety of bands while enjoying local bites and drink.

This new partnership brings the focus on local flavor, highlighting some of the best new food trends the area has to offer. This free event is open to people of all ages, providing a place for residents, workers and visitors to listen, relax, and wind down from their busy week.

Steven Gaffney is We Will Survive Cancer’s 2018 Celebration of Life” honoree and will be presented the Don’t Waste My Canceraward at the National Press Club. Steven is a leading expert on honest, interpersonal communication, with a focus on performance and change success. A prolific writer on an array of professional and self-improvement topics. Steven’s books include: Just Be Honest, Honesty Sells, Honesty Works and Be A Change Champion. Steven had a bout with cancer in 2009 and he is subsequently cancer free since. His response to his shocking diagnosis and the ensuing treatment regimen was to “keep the right perspective and appreciate life.” His outlook clearly reflects the spirit of hope that is the essence of We Will Survive Cancer. In honoring Steven Gaffney, we celebrate his life and work and offer an inspirational message from which we all will benefit.

Radiator Mother’s Day Tea Party @ Radiator

On Sunday, May 13, the Radiator team will celebrate mothers with a playful twist on a traditional high tea on the rooftop of the Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel. While overlooking picturesque views of Washington, D.C., family members may enjoy boozy tea and Chef Jonathan’s take on classic finger sandwiches. As a special toast to the beloved matriarch, a “mom-osa” bar will be available throughout the afternoon.

The Mother’s Day Tea Party will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. No reservations or cover charge required.

ZooFari: Dine for Wildlife @ Smithsonian National Zoo

Nearly 100 of Washington, D.C.’s best restaurants will descend upon the Smithsonian’s National Zoo for ZooFari: Dine for Wildlife, the area’s biggest and longest-running food and drink tasting event hosted by Friends of the National Zoo. At ZooFari you’ll be able to sample delicious food, wine, and beer, participate in a silent auction (featuring exclusive animal-made artwork) meet a naked mole-rat, and much more—all while supporting conservation work around the globe. Save the date for May 17, 2018 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. to celebrate and save species.

In addition to extraordinary food and fine wines, ZooFari also offers a night of unforgettable entertainment. The chef that rocks, DJ Chef—champion of the Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen—will be preparing eats while spinning beats!

Guests will also dance under the stars with live music by renowned dance band DC Fusion and classically trained violinist Ben Hoyt. There will also be exotic animal encounters, food sculptors, a cake decorating contest by the Art Institute of Washington, and a silent auction featuring exclusive paintings made by D.C.’s famous panda family Mei Xiang, Tian Tian, and Bei Bei.

The annual event commemorates the achievements of women and the importance of preserving women’s history and highlights the need for a national women’s history museum on the National Mall.

This year’s event honors award-winning journalist and author Cokie Roberts, and #MeToo movement founder Tarana Burke. CNN’s chief political correspondent, Dana Bash, PBS Contributing Correspondent, Alison Stewart, will also participate in the program.
