Chris4Life 5th Annual “Fabulous” Event @ Clarendon Ballroom
Jun 20 @ 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM

The evening will be filled with a whole lot of ‘fabulous’ for attendees to enjoy from signature cocktails, savory bites, live DJ, and the ever-popular Fabulous Auction.  A highlight of the evening will be a special fashion show with looks by Current Boutique and the popular fashion style truck The Pink Armoire The purpose of this event is to educate young people about colon cancer awareness. The Never Too Young Coalition is a collaboration of like-minded organizations with the same goal: reducing young onset colorectal cancer. The coalition is united to take on young-onset colorectal cancer through action, education and research.

According to the Journal of American Medical Association, there has been a steady decline in the incidence of colorectal cancer in patients age 50 years or older, but the opposite trend has been observed for young adults. For patients 20 to 34 years, the incidence rates of localized, regional, and distant colon and rectal cancers have increased. Based on current trends, in 2030, the incidence rates for colon and rectal cancers will increase by 90.0% and 124.2%, respectively, for patients 20 to 34 years and by 27.7% and 46.0%, respectively, for patients 35 to 49 years.

Why Fabulous?

Erica Paul was a young woman whose life was cut short by colorectal cancer at the age of 29. Because Erica exemplified the term “fabulous”, the Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation hosts this annual “Fabulous” event in her honor.  The word “fabulous” was her favorite word to describe practically anything in life from her love of fashion, to just enjoying life experiences with family and friends.  More importantly, it was through her compassion, courage, and inspiration that Erica wholly redefined the word itself.

The Fabulous Event is the culmination of Young Survivors Week, focused on increasing awareness for young-onset colorectal cancer.  During Young Survivors Week, survivors and their families will have an opportunity to share their pictures and stories on social media; helping educate the world that you are ‘never too young’ for colon cancer. The proceeds raised will support the Coalition’s ongoing education and research efforts. Tickets to the event range from $30-$100. Women in Wishes Luncheon @ The Westin Georgetown
Jun 22 @ 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic hosts the second annual Women in Wishes luncheon to help make wishes come true for local children battling life-threatening medical conditions and raise awareness about the work of its Women’s Leadership Council. Supporters from around the region are invited to attend and help share the power of a wish®.

Who:               Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic and its Women’s Leadership Council. The council works to raise critical funds for Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic. It is comprised of leaders and entrepreneurs from the legal, financial, nonprofit, government, hospitality, pharmaceutical and professional sports industries.

When:             Monday, June 22, 2015

11 a.m.1 p.m.

Where:           The Westin Georgetown, 2350 M Street NW, Washington, DC

What:             Guests will hear a wish story from a local wish child, bid on wonderful silent auction items, enjoy a three-course meal and champagne toast, network and help to share the power of a wish®. Thank you to our top corporate sponsor, Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP.

Why:               To raise critical funds and celebrate the mission and work of Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic. The organization fulfills hundreds of wishes each year. However, 840 local children are expected to be diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition this year alone – and for each wish granted, at least two more local children are waiting for a wish. Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic needs the community’s support to close the gap between children who are eligible for a wish this year and those who receive one.
