Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Costume judging takes place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., with winners announced at 8:30 p.m.  

WHAT: A bewitching costume contest with three categories: Best Overall,Best Couple and Best Homemade costume of the evening with 10 percent of the sales for the entire day at Harvey’s to be donated to Tinner Hill Foundation, The lucky winners of these three prizes for the costume contest will receive a $25 gift card to Harvey’s for Best Homemade; Best Overall receives two Tinner Hill Music Festival tickets and a $25 Harvey’s gift card, and the Best Couple costume wins a $25 Harvey’s gift card.

Those working up an appetite to compete or watch the festivities for a worthy cause can partake in special snacks like the Blackened Alligator Tacos, Pickled Onions and Radish, Creole Aioli ($12), Andouille and Shrimp Kebab ($12), and Candied Apple Slices ($8), in addition to Harvey’s dinner menu. To quench one’s thirst, Audacious Aleworks will be serving a selection of specials chosen for this festive week. Metro Cellars will offer Send Nudes Rose and Pinot Noir, Colony Cocktails, and white wine. Drinks are priced from $10 to $12 each. To enliven the event, everyone in attendance will enjoy music by the Bobby Thompson Trio. For the trick or treat experience, complimentary candy will be distributed to children who attend with their parents. Harvey’s will be decorated to the hilt with ghoulish décor and music inside the restaurant will be Halloween themed as well. 

Additional fall dishes available at Harvey’s include Root Beer Braised Lamb Shank, Butternut Squash Purée, braised greens, Fire Roasted Duck Breast, Honey roasted sunchokes and apples, green beans, apricot glaze, Tuna Poke Tostadas, Barber Sauce, Avocado Salsa, Fussili Bolognese with House-made Ricotta, 18-20 Cuban Sandwich with Mustard and Pickle Brined Pork loin, Ham, Swiss, Bread and Butter Pickles, and Blackened Tuna Sandwich, IPA-ioli, Lettuce Tomato, Avocado. Dinner menu items at Harvey’s are priced from $20 to $48, with appetizers ranging from $10 to $18.

Fairmont Washington, D.C., Georgetown’s Canine Ambassador Georgie*, invites friends and neighbors to stop by with their canine companions for Fairmont’s 11th annual Howl-O-Ween.  The event, takes place on Thursday, October 27 in the Courtyard Bar from 6:00pm and 7:30pm.

Prizes will be awarded at 7:00pm to costumed doggies with their people, such as overnight stays, dinners and more. Local celebrity judges will award prizes for most creative, most adorable, funniest and honorable mentions.

All dogs will be pawsatively treated to peanut butter doggie biscuits created by Fairmont’s pastry team, and canine coolers will be placed throughout the courtyard. Humans can purchase spooky canine-themed cocktails along with Puptails and Doggie Dinners for all four-legged guests.

*Georgie, a yellow Labrador puppy, was born on August 17, 2018 at Guiding Eyes for the Blind, with the aspiration of one day becoming a guide dog.  However, she was found to be excessively friendly for that role.  Luckily, Mark Huntley the hotel’s general manager, knew she was better suited for the hospitality industry.  She spends her time in the lobby and courtyard greeting guests, visitors and holding special events.

Colorectal Cancer Alliance 12th Annual Blue Hope Bash 

The Washington region’s most generous allies will join together in-person for an evening in blue when the Colorectal Cancer Alliance hosts its annual Blue Hope Bash gala on Saturday, October 29. The event will be an all-out Bash affair, as the Alliance celebrates its full return after two years in a virtual gathering and will raise funds to support the organization’s efforts to increase prevention awareness, support patients and their families, and accelerate critical research. This year’s fundraising goal is $2 million, and since the event’s inception in 2010, it has raised more than $12 million.

The evening will feature live entertainment, a live auction, and the popular Porsche car raffle. 

The Blue Hope Bash event series is the signature fundraiser of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. The Bash occurs in cities across America to celebrate survivorship and remember loved ones.

BASH EMCEES: Craig Melvin (News Anchor, NBC News’ TodayCo-Host, 3rd Hour of NBC News’ Today, Alliance Board of Directors Member) and wife Lindsay Czarinak (American Sports Broadcaster). In 2017, Craig shared on the Today Show his connection with the disease after his brother Lawrence was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer at age 39. Melvin has been an active supporter and ally of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance – he sits on their Board of Directors and has emceed the Bash for the past six years.

90s Themed Halloween at Hi-Lawn @ Hi Lawn

Hi-Lawn is once again celebrating Halloween with a 90s themed party on Saturday, October 29 from 7pm to 11pm.The picturesque retro rooftop will host live music from local band Turtle Recall, a DJ pre-party, festive food and drink specials, and a costume contest with prizes.

DJ Steve Lemz will kick things off with retro tunes from 4pm-7pm, and then local DC band Turtle Recall will be performing top 90s throwback hits from 7-11pm.

Spooky food and drink specials include a Black Magic Pomegranate Margarita, Blue Curacao Mermaid Lemonade, and Spiked Hot Cider; plus a Devil Dog Kimchi Bratwurst, and specially-priced Jumbo Pretzels. Hi-Lawn’s regular food and drink menu will be available as well.

Costumes are encouraged, as there will be a costume contest (guests can enter by posting a photo of their costumes on Instagram and tagging @hilawndc to enter) with prizes such as a $100 Hi-Lawn gift card.

Guests can pre-register for Hi-Lawn’s Halloween celebration ahead of time for free on Eventbrite (while day-of tickets at the door will be $5). All food and drink will be sold a la carte. The event is 21+ and tables and lawn spots are first come first serve.
