Dreaming Out Loud works to create economic opportunities for the DC metro region’s marginalized communities, through building a healthy, equitable food system and has announced its fifth installment of the Fall Annual Festival, which will take place on Sat, October 8th, 2022 at 10 am to 2 pm in Washington, DC.
This year’s fall festival is a celebration of the end of the farm season and is designed to complement DOL’s programs.Featuring a mix of entertainment and networking opportunities, DOL’s Fall Festival will equip attendees with knowledge about the source of their food in a fun and unique environment. Individuals and families will also have a chance to interact with farmers, their peers, and vendors while enjoying mouth-watering delicacies.
Sponsors and or exhibitors are encouraged to participate in the event for a chance to promote their work within the community, showcase products/services, and to connect with end users.

Crunchy leaves. Spiced cider. Chunky sweaters. Pumpkin everything. Calico is celebrating the changing of the seasons with its 2nd Annual Late Harvest Festival on Sunday, October 16 from 1pm to 8 pm. After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the urban backyard in Blagden Alley has brought back its welcome party for cooler weather, with a free-to-attend Sunday afternoon fall fest complete with pumpkin picking & painting, caramel apples, hot cocktails, autumnal fare and more festive seasonal fun.
There’s no need to head to the pumpkin patch this year. Guests can pick their very own pumpkins from Calico’s pop-up patch and decorate them with complimentary painting supplies.
The fall fest will serve as the preview of Calico’s new seasonal menu, featuring autumnal cookout fare from Chef Nathan Beauchamp, such as mugs of soup and piping hot spinach dip. There will also be fresh local apples with sweet, buttery caramel for dipping.
Seasonal libations will range from hot drinks from bar director Ian Fletcher such as spiked alpine cider and pumpkin spice hot buttered rum made with Don Q, pumpkin cider, Oktoberfest beers and more, plus non-alcoholic hot cider.
Rounding out the lively festivities will be a festive photo area complete with hay, pumpkins and corn stalks for the perfect photo-op.
Families are encouraged to attend early in the afternoon, from 1-4pm, where face painters will entertain kiddos.
Local breweries will pour complimentary beer tastings for adults (21+), who can also purchase cans to take home. Silver Branch Brewing Co. will pour from 1-4pm and Hellbender Brewing Company will pour from 4-7pm.
Calico’s Late Harvest Festival is free to attend and open to the public, with all pumpkins, food and beverage sold a la carte.

Colorectal Cancer Alliance 12th Annual Blue Hope Bash
The Washington region’s most generous allies will join together in-person for an evening in blue when the Colorectal Cancer Alliance hosts its annual Blue Hope Bash gala on Saturday, October 29. The event will be an all-out Bash affair, as the Alliance celebrates its full return after two years in a virtual gathering and will raise funds to support the organization’s efforts to increase prevention awareness, support patients and their families, and accelerate critical research. This year’s fundraising goal is $2 million, and since the event’s inception in 2010, it has raised more than $12 million.
The evening will feature live entertainment, a live auction, and the popular Porsche car raffle.
The Blue Hope Bash event series is the signature fundraiser of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance. The Bash occurs in cities across America to celebrate survivorship and remember loved ones.

Close out your Hallo-weekend this year at City Ridge, a bustling new neighborhood in Northwest DC. The neighborhood invites all friends and family to its FREE Fall Festival from 12-4 p.m. on Sunday, October 30 at the center of City Ridge at 14 Ridge Square NW.
Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy a variety of seasonal activities from painting pumpkins to jumping around the Halloween bounce house. On Saturday, November 5, 2022, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., the local Falls Church restaurant community is coming together to host a Crawl for The Courts to benefit the employees of Irelands Four Courts. To participate, one will need to buy a voucher. The vouchers for the restaurant crawl will be available for purchase at each participating restaurant, on the day of the event. The cost is $100 per person and 100 percent of the proceeds raised will be presented to Irelands Four Courts, https://www.irelandsfourcourts.com/. The patrons who come out to support this community effort will show their voucher to enjoy a bite and a drink special at each of the six participating restaurants.
On August 12, 2022, a car left the roadway and drove into Ireland’s Four Courts, the popular Irish pub in Arlington, Virginia, resulting in 15 people being injured from the fiery crash, including staff members of the restaurant. The accident created a destructive fire, closing the pub. Alexandria City Councilman John Taylor Chapman’s Manumission Tour Company, which highlights African American culture, and Griffin Vision Media, a media company offering photography and videography services featured on NBC, CBS, ESPN, and other platforms, partnered to bring a special preview event to Alexandria to celebrate black excellence. Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever, the highest action-earned film reaching over a billion in profits at the box office, will have a special showing at AMC Hoffman Center Movie Theater on Thursday, November 10.
The private early screening which will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., will feature red-carpet photo ops, raffle prize giveaways, and screening room options. Moviegoers are encouraged to cosplay for a chance to win the “Best Dressed Wakandan” contest.
Manumission and Griffin Vision Media partnered with DC-based national non-profit the Colorectal Cancer Alliance to help raise awareness and funds about a disease that took beloved Black Panther lead actor Chadwick Boseman in 2020 at the age of 44. In 2017, event partner Elijah Walter Griffin, Sr., of Griffin Vision Media, lost his mother to colorectal cancer at the age of 62. Alliance representatives will be on-site and movie goers will have a variety of ways to donate or support the organization’s awareness and prevention efforts within the black community.
Black Americans are 20% more likely to be diagnosed with colorectal cancer and 35% more likely to die from it than non-Hispanic whites. The Colorectal Cancer Alliance, as the nation’s leading nonprofit dedicated to ending colorectal cancer, is addressing these disparities in colorectal cancer prevention and care. Its free screening quiz provides a personalized recommendation at quiz.getscreened.org. Its patient navigation team can provide screening support. And with its partner BLKHLTH, the Alliance is providing free at-home test kits to eligible individuals. The Alliance is currently establishing a health equity fund to provide further support.

This event will be an unforgettable evening of entertainment and dancing as DC’s LGBTQ+ community celebrates a memorable year and collectively supports the Pride 365 Fund. The evening will begin with a VIP reception at 8:00 pm honoring Capital Pride’s volunteers, partners, advocates, donors, and valuable team members. Doors will open to the general public at 9:30 pm and guests will enjoy a night of performances by International Drag Superstar Shea Couleé, DJ Joe Gauthreaux, DJ Tracy Young, DJ Eletrox, International Ballroom House of Garcon, Bang, and hosted by the National Bearded Empress, Vagenesis.

The Henri will host a special evening event on Monday, November 14, to introduce and showcase the restaurant’s new private label “The Henri” in partnership with Woodford Reserve. Guests can experience one of the city’s most distinguished dining experiences and enjoy an evening of inventive cocktails and signature dishes by Chef Frederik De Pue. The proceeds from the evening will go to benefit No Kid Hungry, an organization that is close to De Pue’s heart.
“This unique event enables us to highlight The Henri’s unwavering commitment to feeding hungry children and ensuring they receive the meals they need, especially with the holidays approaching. No child should go hungry and it’s our duty to do our part,” shares De Pue.
