This webinar will feature the world premier of SBANA’s animated video illustrating sake’s unique tradition, craft, and range of enjoyment for sake newcomers. The video will be followed by a panel discussion with three SBANA member brewers relating their passion for sake and sake-making: Mr. Andrew Centofante of North American Sake Brewery (Charlottesville, VA); Ms. Euka Isawa of Katsuyama (Miyagi, Japan) and Mr. Patrick Shearer of Ben’s American Sake (Asheville, NC). The March 23 event will be held in conjunction with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, the nation’s greatest springtime celebration commemorating the enduring friendship between the people of Japan and the United States.

This month, we’ll raise our glasses to these stylish women with mixologist Allison Lane, who will show us how to create a cocktail (or mocktail) inspired by first ladies. Then, Sam Reed, senior editor for InStyle.com, will join us to discuss the exhibition “Every Eye is Upon Me: First Ladies of the United States” and the history of unforgettable first lady fashion.

photographer Helene Schmitz. “Dreamland” opens Thursday, March 25, with a virtual presentation of
the exhibition and a moderated conversation with the artist.

Helene Schmitz’s work is a photographic account of the unprecedented extraction and depletion of natural resources in Sweden. “Dreamland” consists of two photography series that examine human-
induced changes in bedrock and forest at two different locations: “The Bedrock” focuses on the Aitik mine outside Gällivare and “The Forest” displays the aftermath of a forest fire in former production
forests of Västmanland.
Schmitz links her photographs to the rich tradition of landscape painting, using a large-format,
analogue camera that lets the spectator observe both the overall vista and the small details. She calls
her photographs in the “Dreamland” series “a meditation on man’s relation to nature—a global, highly
industrialized and automated transformation of landscapes.”
