Pizza and Dance Party @ Pizzeria Paradiso Spring Valley

Pizzeria Paradiso in Spring Valley will host a safe and socially distanced “Pizza and Dance Party” this coming Sunday in the vacant parking lot across the street from the restaurant, located at 48th Street and Windom Place, NW.

The morning starts off with 305 Fitness’ signature 55-minute cardio dance party class, led by one of the studio’s most popular instructors, Owoade Kadara. The pop-up class will feature aerobic choreography moves set to high-energy dance tunes from a curated playlist. Following the class, guests can take a short walk across the street to Pizzeria Paradiso Spring Valley (located at 4850 Massachusetts Avenue, NW) for a fresh out-of-the-oven pizza pie or lunch sized salad, which can be enjoyed on the restaurant’s patio or for takeout.

Starting at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 25., tickets which can be purchased here, are $24 and include:

  • The 55-minute 305 Fitness class
  • Choice of one pizza or a lunch sized salad*
    • Pizza options include: Margherita OR Macellaio OR Bosco OR Quattro Formaggi OR Genovese OR Atomica OR Siciliana OR Paesana
    • Salad options include Insalata Paradiso OR Insalata Romana

  • Space is limited as we’ll be dancing 15 feet apart. Masks are required upon arrival and may be removed during class.

    VeVe Marley is a D.C.-based singer/songwriter and guitarist whose music blends elements of folk, Afrobeat, R&B and hip-hop to create dreamy, soulful vibes while speaking on issues of identity, spirituality, racism and the Black experience. Marley has performed and recorded since 2013. Her most recent project, with her band VeVe and Tha Rebels, is entitled “The EP.”

Dia de los Muertos Sugar Skull Painting Class @ HalfSmoke

HalfSmoke, located in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC at 651 Florida Avenue, NW, 20001, invites guests to take part in one of Mexico’s great traditions, The Day of the Dead.

Halloween and the Day of The Dead @ TTT Clarendon

Guests are invited to TTT Clarendon, located at 2900 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, Virginia 22201, to celebrate Halloween and the Day of The Dead spirit of Mexico complete with decorations, and a costume party on Saturday, October 31.
The festivities will kick off at 8 p.m. with three seating times available: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., 10 p.m. to 12 Midnight and 12 Midnight to 2 a.m. Guests will enjoy the spooky decor, a DJ, cocktails, and the costume contest. DJ Ruben will spin 80s and 90s throwback hits on the first floor, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Those dining on the third floor TTT Rooftop, which seats 82 and offers wonderful views on the city, will enjoy watching and listening to the DJ performance, which will stream on a large screen projection.

Additionally, three winners of the costume contest (one from each seating) will be awarded $100 gift certificate to TTT Clarendon, or one of Street Guys Hospitality’s sister restaurants. The costume contestants will be showcased live on a large screen projector so everyone can help judge the winner with the guest DJ. For this special evening, TTT Clarendon will be showcasing a signature cocktail, the Blood Orange Margarita, which is made from tequila, freshly squeezed blood orange and fresh lime, and priced at $10. An assortment of spooky bartender shots will also be available throughout the evening and priced at $5 each.

Election Night with DEMOCRACY DOODLE 2020 @ Online

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ first-ever Education Artist-in-Residence, Emmy Award®–winning writer and New York Times best-selling author and illustrator Mo Willems, and musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) invite you to express yourself in a different way this Election Night with DEMOCRACY DOODLE 2020.

On the important night of November 3rd, important screens will be filled with important pundits opining on this important election—and you might want to take a break from it.

So, find some paper, markers, and loved ones and click on to the Kennedy Center website starting at 7pm ET for a series of doodle exercises led by Mo Willems accompanied by performances by members of the NSO.

Democracy and doodles are both forms of self-expression worthy of celebration.

A vocal music major in jazz under the direction of Professor Calvin Jones at the University of the District of Columbia, Martin was a finalist in the London International Vocalist Competition and has written, directed and produced music programs for D.C. Public Schools and Montgomery County Public Schools. She was contributing composer for the PBS documentary Revolution ’67 by Jerome and Marylou Bongiorno. She has released two albums: Hide (2005) and See Hear, Love… (2011).

Named for the groundbreaking African American contralto, the Marian Anderson Vocal Award recognizes a young American singer in opera, oratorio, or recital repertory. In addition to the award given annually by the Washington National Opera and the Kennedy Center, the recipient also receives a residency at Washington’s Duke Ellington School of the Arts and a recital presented by the Washington National Opera. This year’s winner, baritone Will Liverman, has quickly gained a reputation for his compelling performances, with significant debuts on stages such as the Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Seattle Opera, Opera Philadelphia, and more.
