Beginning in 1989 with his first album, Kravitz has made an indelible mark on pop culture with hits including “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” “American Woman,” “Again” and “Fly Away.” An international style icon and trendsetter, he has sold more than 40 million albums, won four consecutive Grammys for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, and earned praise for his edgy music videos and elaborate stage performances.
Kravitz is currently on a sold-out European tour running through July. The announcement of new U.S. tour dates (see www.lennykravitz.com/tour for full routing) follows the recently released video for his latest single, “The Pleasure and the Pain” via RollingStone.com. His tenth studio album, Strut, was released in September 2014 and looks back on the 1970’s metropolis of funky after-hours grooves and soulful hooks. Named one of Rolling Stone’s Top Albums of 2014, the album includes such titles as “New York City,” “I Never Want to Let You Down” and “She’s a Beast.”
With the addition of Kravitz, Wolf Trap’s Summer 2015 season at the Filene Center features 73 acts and 40 Wolf Trap debuts, including ‘80s icons Culture Club (August 10), Grammy-winning country stars Little Big Town (August 15), acclaimed Cuban cultural export Orquesta Buena Vista Social Club(August 29), and multiplatinum pop star Kelly Clarkson with Pentatonix (September 12-13).

As the finale to a rewarding summer partnership, Gourmet Symphony and Capital City Symphony present the Taste Your Music Benefit Concert at The Hamilton Live (600 14th Street NW Washington, DC 20005) on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 7:30 pm. The event celebrates the culmination and success of Taste Your Music, a community outreach project that sponsored a series of culinary chamber concerts and educational programs at local food and service providers during summer 2015. The Benefit Concert joins Taste Your Music’s charity and culinary partners, Gourmet Symphony and Capital City Symphony musicians, and DC’s philanthropic community to create social change through the musical and culinary arts. The nontraditional atmosphere encourages guests to explore the venue, meet the musicians, and engage with the orchestra and each other through conversation and social media. Led by Maestro John Devlin, the Gourmet Symphony orchestra, composed of young professional musicians from across the greater-Washington area, will once again delight attendees with its energy, dynamism, and musicianship. The ensemble will perform Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 in G Major, Mvts. I & IV and Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915, both featuring acclaimed soprano Mandy Brown as guest soloist. In addition, the orchestra will be joined by musicians from project partner Capital City Symphony in special performances of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Mvt. I and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Mvt. I. Musicians from the two ensembles come together to show their commitment to Taste Your Music, raise awareness for the charity partners’ causes, and garner support for future socially-conscious arts programming in the DC area.

Ron Holloway
Ron Holloway is one of the busiest tenor saxophonist’s on today’s music scene in any genre! He has been touring internationally as a member of Susan Tedeschi’s Band but still finds time to appear as a frequent special guest of the Allman Brothers Band, Warren Haynes & Gov’t Mule, the Derek Trucks Band, Taj Mahal, and Little Feat.
Linwood Taylor
Linwood Lee Taylor is tuned in to Howlin’ Wolf, Jimi Hendrix, and Muddy Waters, as well as Freddy King,Albert King, and Albert Collins, just to name a few. In fact, Taylor often played with Collins on the East Coast and treats fans to “Frosty”, a Collins tune he played with its creator. Not many Blues artists can say they’ve recorded with H.R. of the Bad Brains as well as performed with Albert Collins, but Taylor can. This talented Bluesman also plays a bare-bones acoustic guitar and entertains at venues in Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland.
Bobby Thompson
Based in Washington DC, Bobby has gained near legend status for his reputation as a solid, soulful singer, and world-class guitarist, and a powerful songwriter. Whether touring as a sideman with DC-renowned singer-songwriter Justin Jones, touring solo, or fronting the blues-rock group Blueheart Revival, Bobby puts a premium on a high-level performance.
Eli Cook
Eli took up the guitar as a teenager in the Blue Ridge foothills of Virginia. Following the tradition of the great blues men, he performed in churches and late-night gospel revivals with only his acoustic and deep baritone voice, while playing every hole-in-the-wall bar that could handle his electric power trio. Blending the influences of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Fred MacDowell, Bukka White and Lightning Hopkins with the likes of Clutch, Soundgarden, C.O.C, and Rage against the Machine, he forged a fresh sound, alive with the southern blues tradition.
Sol Roots (Solo)
Sol’s talent stretches from fiery rock to laid back jazz, and from funky innovative grooves to soulful ballads, drawing on a deep background in raw down-home blues. Sol has performed on stage and in the studio with musical heavyweights Taj Mahal, Kenny Wayne Shepard, and with the international guitar hero Cool John Ferguson (nominated 2 years -Most Outstanding Guitarist-Living Blues), who he performed with steadily for years. With Cool John, Sol has opened for the great B.B. King, Derek Trucks Band, and other musical luminaries.

After Hours, the signature late-night event at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, returns Friday, Sept. 18, 8 p.m.–midnight, with the support of idobi Network. The ticketed event features a performance by post-rock/ambient electronic band Tycho, as well as a last chance to see “Shirin Neshat: Facing History,” a major exhibition that presents the work of the internationally acclaimed artist in the context of the history of modern Iran; it closes Sept. 20.
Since 2007, After Hours has been a favorite of local audiences, attracting up to 2,000 people a night to events that have featured performers such as Zola Jesus, Dan Deacon and the Madison Sounds of Deliverance; DJs such as Nancy Whang, Shea Van Horn and Fatback; and artists such as Semiconductor and Bec Stupak and Honeygun Labs.
Known for expansive instrumental soundscapes, Tycho is led by San Francisco-based musician and designer Scott Hansen. Originally a solo project that highlighted the use of drum machines and analog synthesizers, Tycho has grown into a full-fledged band whose precise and hypnotic live performances are accompanied by visuals designed by Hansen. The performance begins at 10:30 p.m.
Exhibitions on view include “Le Onde: Waves of Italian Influence (1914–1971),” which examines the importance of Italian art and thought to developments in futurism, spatialism, op art and kinetic art, and “Sergio Caballero,” which comprises a video work by the Spanish artist that blends homespun puppet animation and live action to tell the grotesque and darkly comic tale of an exorcism. “At the Hub of Things: New Views of the Collection,” a thematic rehanging of largely contemporary works from the collection, is ongoing. All museum galleries will be open until 10 p.m., with last entry at 9:30 p.m.
