Calculated or coincidence??  This year’s Legg Mason Tennis Classic coincides with Shark Week… displays of power and prowess from which you just can’t peel your eyes away!  But if it’s tennis and not shark teeth that really draw your attention…

The game’s marquee players return to the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center (16th & Kennedy Streets, NW),  July 30-August 7, including defending champion David Nalbandian, ATP World Tour No. 9 Mardy Fish, No. 10 Andy Roddick, No. 11 Jurgen Melzer,  No. 12 Viktor Troicki,  2010 runner-up Marcos Baghdatis (Cyprus), rising Canadian star Milos Raonic, 2007 runner-up John Isner and 2002 champion & 2005 runner-up James Blake.

Washington Tennis & Education Foundation Pro-AM     Monday, August 1-4pm-5:30pm
Play with the world’s best tennis pros & help DC’s underserved youth! This annual pro-am tourney features singles and doubles professional players from the Legg Mason Tennis Classic.  Following your tennis session with the pros, you and a guest will watch the evening matches in an air-conditioned suite with dinner and beverages. Chef Challenge                                                                     Monday, August 1 6PM – 8PM                                                                  
A thrilling culinary competition that features local DC chefs battling against the clock… and rum! Winner determined by a panel of celebrity judges. Price includes food and drink during the competition as well as a ticket to the Monday session matches.  (Tickets $70)

Alumni Night at the Net                                                     Tuesday, August 2   6PM-8PM                                                                          
Show some school spirit at the tournament’s “Official Tailgate Party.”  Games, trivia, professional tennis player appearances and lots of Coronas (sponsor) as you watch the court action.  (Tickets $50)

Wine Tasting Night                                                             Thursday, August 4 6 PM – 8PM
An evening of swirling, sipping and savoring… this tasting features the tournament’s signature wine!  Tickets include tasting admission as well as a reserved seat ticket to the Thursday, August 4 session. (Tickets $70)

Stars of Tomorrow Junior Challenge                            Thurs – Sat (August 4-6)
Cheer on the next generation of DC tennis professionals during a round robin tennis event for children ages 10 and under from several prominent training centers in the DC Metropolitan area.
