Update on Kate…

I’ve had so much fun this week at events and appearances, I couldn’t choose just one to write about! So here is a general overview of the week so you’ll know what has been happening and how preparations are going for Miss America!

The week started with a bang, especially on Tuesday! I was able to meet D.C.’s front-runner Mayoral candidate, Adrian Fenty, at a small gathering put together by Sotheby’s in Adams Morgan (Ward 1 for any of you D.C. voters!). I told him that, should he win, I was looking forward to working with him this year as Education was a top priority for both of us. Then I was on to a Capitol File magazine event and the opening night of a new restuarant in the city, Posh. What a Tuesday!

Wednesday I was fortunate to have been selected to model in the Escada fashion show benefitting the Salvation Army held at the District of Columbia Ritz. While walking down the runway and wearing designer clothes is always a great time, I felt even better knowing that I was helping out a great and worthy cause. I also attended a reception and lecture at the Johns Hopkins University Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences – this is where I am attending graduate school for both my Masters in Government and MBA, so I am always excited to attend events sponsored there.

Dennis Roche, the owner of my wonderful salon sponsor, Roche Salon, organized a benefit for Breast Cancer and succeeded in having Thursday named “Good Hair Day” in Washington, D.C. We had a blast! Curious gentlemen took turns styling the lady guests hair – I even got mine straightened, curled, and then re-straightened! What great idea, Dennis, and thanks for allowing me to be a part of it.

The schedule is packed with more events and appearances for the weekend and coming weeks. I also just found out that Venus will be sponsoring the swimsuits for the Miss America Lifestyle and Fitness Competition this year, so I’m excited about coming closer to completing my wardrobe for the BIG NIGHT! Plans are also in the works for a HUGE embassy send-off that Capitol File Magazine has agreed to sponsor – so check back often.

And please leave me a message! I’d love to know what you think of my website, if you have seen me at an appearance around town, or if you have any events for which you would like to have Miss District of Columbia in attendance. Have a beautiful weekend!
