Reading is FUNdamental!!

A literacy organization that I am working closely with this year, Reading Is Fundamental, is sponsoring 3 literacy events in conjunction with the DC Public Schools system at approximately 40 Washington DC schools during the 2006-2007 school year. We are in the process of recruiting volunteers and I would really like to get as many of my friends and supporters involved in these as possible. We need YOU to make these events a success!

You would only need about 1-2 hours on the listed dates to show kids in DC the importance of books and literacy. By reading with them, helping them select books, and just being there to show support would really make a HUGE difference. Thank you so much in advance for your participation.

The D.C. Initiative is RIF’s way of saying thank you to Washington, D.C. for the inspiration, support and encouragement that the city has provided to RIF for nearly 40 years.

What: RIF will coordinate and host three city-wide book distribution events at more than 40 Washington D.C. public schools.

Where: Elementary, middle, high schools and charter schools in Washington, D.C.

When: November 2, 2006- RIF’s 40th Anniversary Kick-off
March 1, 2007 RIF Celebrates Read Across America (Dr. Seuss)
May 2007 (TBD) – Reading Is Fun Week – TBD

Why You Should Help:

Community members can make these RIF distribution events even more meaningful by volunteering at one of the participating schools. By reading aloud to students, assisting with distribution day tasks or even contributing funds, YOU can make these events the best ever! More importantly, you can show the children of Washington, D.C. that you value reading and that you value them.
