Trending Diplomatic

Our country’s diplomatic future is bright, promising, or at the very least trend-setting, if Friday night’s Young Professionals in Foreign Policy fundraiser is any indication. While cupcakes, for instance, make an appearance at almost every DC event these days, the Affairs of State concert and fundraiser matched its open bar with the next-wave in pastries: mini pies from O’B. Sweet Pie Shoppe. And while one might have expected an army of Hill staff dressed in khakis to crowd the dance floor, the halls of the City Tavern Club in Georgetown united an eclectic mix of young political junkies—plaid shirts seemed right at home alongside the suits, cocktail dresses, and pastel pants—to schmooze and dance to the indie tunes of DC-bred US Royalty (the band, of course, not the diplomats!).

Friday’s event was the DC chapter of YPFP’s fourth annual fundraiser. The group provides mentoring, discussion groups and other educational opportunities to rising foreign policy professionals, with additional chapters in New York, Brussels and London.
