‘Resilient Hearts’ Director Tells Firsthand of Haiti’s Surviving Spirit

Claudine Oriol, Haitian-American actress, director and producer, celebrated the world premier screening of her documentary film, Resilient Hearts, last Sunday at the AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, MD. The film, an official AFI selection of the 2014 DC Caribbean LRD_7685Film Festival, reveals Haiti’s unique culture and rich history, and conveys the resiliency of the Haitian spirit.

In her directorial debut, Oriol, who left Port-au-Prince one hour before its devastating earthquake, tells her story to the world through the eyes and lives of the Haitian people, calling this project “an ode not only to [her] fellow Haitians, but to everyone across the globe who was impacted by this natural disaster, or who has experienced loss and triumphed in the face of defeat.”

Following the screening, the AFI moderated a Q&A series led by special guest, H.E. Paul Altidor, Ambassador of Haiti.
