Thinking Pink… and Blue: Men Against Breast Cancer

“I’m the voice of the Washington Wizards… except for tonight!” joked Steve Buckhantz, who was available to emcee Men Against Breast Cancer’s 9th annual Think Pink and Blue Awards Gala Wednesday evening at Macy’s due to the NBA lock-out.

“Tonight was supposed to be our first game, so we should all be on the air at the Verizon Center.  That’s not going to happen, at least for another month… but we’ll all keep our fingers crossed.”

Buckhantz, joked about sports, but was more serious about the rest of his script.  A longtime supporter and friend of MABC and Founder Mark Heyison, he spoke of breast cancer’s growing grassroots support network before a runway show of Macy’s men’s fashions featuring models Ebong Eka, Chick Hernandez, and Tommy McFly.  After the men strutted, everyone saved, as Macy’s offered shopping discounts to all in attendance.

“We’ve seen what an incredible impact that breast cancer awareness has – it’s everywhere, even if you turn on a football game – it’s right in front of you.  And this Foundation helps men, family members, friends, significant others, family members… to help the ones that are stricken with this disease.”
