Sam Haskell: Promises I Made My Mother

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Sam Haskell (at left), releases a book to honor his mother and the lessons she taught him that helped him to succeed in life – and in the cutthroat business of Hollywood.

Haskell is the former worldwide head of television for the William Morris Agency, representing clients in all sectors of the entertainment industry, and now serves as Chairman of the Miss America Organization. In the book he details how the pledge he made his mother to live a decent life has helped him to live and thrive – even through tough times and challenging situations.

On Thursday evening, Haskell kicked-off his 56 city book tour, announcing that “Promises I Made My Mother” was already 4th on Amazon.com after only seven days of sales. Phyllis George (mother of Pamela Brown, at right, and Miss America 1971) introduced Haskell to the crowd.

The audience was full of Haskell’s dear friends from Mississippi, including Trent Lott and beauty Queens – Miss DC ED Teri Galvez, several past Miss DCs and several Miss DC contestants. Tammy Haddad (Tammy Faye for the evening to fit in with the Mississippians…) roamed with the Tam Cam, at left) while everyone admired Ann Hand’s brooch and chatted with her husband, former Ambassador Lloyd Hand.

“Promises I Made My Mother” is available now in bookstores and online.
