Sofitel’s Opaline in Back and More Beautiful Than Ever

“We have elevated food and it’s tasty. If I didn’t like it, I wouldn’t put it on a plate,” said Executive Chef Kevin Lalli, unveiling the fresh look of Opaline Bar & Brasserie in the Sofitel Washington, DC in late February.

Previewing the restaurant’s new French-inspired menu, which will be served starting on March 6, 2023, Lalli outdid himself for a media preview with a decadent 8-course tasting menu including many favorite items, including Scallop Crudo, Tuna Tartare, Branzino Almondine, Duck à l’Orange, and Steak au Poivre.

The piéce de résistance — which you won’t be able to resist, actually — is his Butternut Squash Agnolotti. He admits that it’s made with love, which is evident in each savory brown-buttered bite.

And while most Opaline diners won’t be experiencing the menu in the bar — restaurant dining is in a spacious room just opposite, and the hotel has a prime patio dining location — area Director for Public Relations, Diana Bulger, and General Manager, Karla Erales, also welcomed guests to experience the redesigned bar area, with its new intricate tile flooring and blue-green wall coloring. Perfect for an aperitif, perhaps, or lingering long into the evening.

All in all, it’s a beautiful new space with an absolutely mouth-watering new menu. Allons-y!

Opaline Bar & Brasserie is located at 806 15th St NW.
