New in the Neighborhood: Jake’s American Grille

Jake’s Bar

Grandpa’s the gimmick.

Edwin “Jake” Jablonski now has a battleship themed cocktail and culinary tribute to his life and career, and you have Chevy Chase’s newest eatery, Jake’s American Grille, which opens Friday, February 25, 2011 (5018 Connecticut Avenue, NW).

“I have never been one to come up with a gimmick for a restaurant concept,” says Gaynor Jablonski, known from such eateries as The Ugly Mug, Maddy’s Bar & Grille and District 2. “[It] should always just be great food, great service and a great atmosphere. But this spot is a little different…because it honors the memory of [him].”

Jake fought for our country and you’ll be fooding for it, noshing on an upscale Americana menu and washing it down with an array of domestic beers on tap while basking in the glory of Grandpa’s tribute photographs, articles and awards.

Honor and remember: The good old days have gone gastronomic.
