Kate Michael, @kstreetkate, is a Writer/Model/On-Camera Host and Event Emcee. Notable as the Founder and current Editor-At-Large of K Street Magazine, Kate started the site while serving as Miss District of Columbia 2006 and competing in Miss America (2007). Currently, Kate works as a professional spokesperson and model, walking the runway for such industry icons as Valentino, Derek Lam, Naeem Kahn and Oscar de la Renta. Her media portfolio includes a spread in Elle magazine and features on Inside Edition and BBC World News’ “The Real Cities” series. You’ll catch her interviewing guests on DC’s NewChannel8′s Let’s Talk Live and showcasing products on BestBuy.com, as well as work appearing on NBC, Fox, Comcast and local print publications.

Miss Maryland Galaxy 2009

Miss USA was crowned last night, and just hours before, some local ladies were crowned as well. But they won’t be competing for Miss USA, they will be competing for the title of Teen Miss, Miss, Ms. and Mrs. Galaxy International.

I served as an emcee, along with the fabulous Isaac Thweat, for this competition in Rockville, MD yesterday afternoon. The Galaxy pageants provide an opportunity for women of all ages and life situations to boost their self confidence and compete to be a Queen.

Evaggelia Zervos (above, right) took home the ‘Miss’ title last night, and was so shocked and surprised that she didn’t even understand that her name had been called!

At left is the new ‘Teen Miss” winner, Alexis Gore, with some of her court.

And here I am with Ms. Belleza Latina 2009, Yolanda Makle (@Yolanda_Makle on Twitter), a national titleholder (who happens to be local) who was visiting – and generously helping backstage!
