Loudoun: Wines and Wanders

No better way to spend the day.  Capital Cooking‘s Lauren deSantis and VisitLoudoun.org led a group of DC food and lifestyle trendsetters through a few of NoVa’s family wineries Sunday afternoon. It’s a day that’s easy to duplicate thanks to the county’s new Wine Country Touring Guide.  Here are some highlights – and video of the great grape getaway…

Virgina’s first duo winery/brewery at Corcoran is truly a boutique operation, producing a limited amount annually of highly antcipated bottles.  Don’t miss the award winning Viognier, and just a few steps away at the Brewing Company, try Padawan Pumpkin, a favorite flavor for Fall.  Monk’s BBQ is also here, making sauces from Corcoran wines/brews and serving up some major meat eats.

Hillsborough, an estate filled with great gardens and dazzling scenery, makes a coveted private event or wedding venue.  It also makes a remarkable Garnet red — especially from 2007.

Sunset Hills, positioned in the Blue Ridge foothills, is a place not to be passed up…either for its Chardonnay or stunning sunset views.  And if you’re into history, ask to see the Amish restoration photos!
