There’s a hidden restaurant within El Secreto de Rosita on U Street.

Don Segundo is an “exclusive pop-up restaurant,”  according to Latin Concepts owner Mauricio Fraga-Rosenfeld. Nestled within the Michelin-listed El Secreto de Rosita, it pays tribute to the other side of his familia, with a focus on flavors from the Andean mountain region.

As a continuation of Fraga-Rosenfeld’s almost three-decade quest to bring the regional cuisine of his childhood to the nation’s capital, Don Segundo hosted a culinary masters meetup inaugurating Andean Gastronomy Week.

Chefs Daniel Maldonado and Andres de la Torre (Quito’s Urko restaurant, 2023 Best Restaurant in Ecuador) joined forces with Don Segundo/El Secreto de Rosita Chef Cristian Granada for an 11-course feast through the diverse landscapes of Ecuador and the Andes.

Diners over the week, including Ecuador’s ambassador to the United States Ivonne A-Baki, were offered a lesson in geography, adaptation, and ingenuity in the fascinating flavors they enjoyed — and an instant picture to remember the night!
