Great Scot!

by Stephanie Green

Last Saturday morning dawned clear, bright, and brisk, a perfect day for one of Old Town Alexandria’s most anticipated events, the annual Scottish Walk parade, celebrating Alexandria’s proud Scottish roots.
Thousands of locals, tourists – and a fair share of District commuters – lined the parade route to see Scottish clans (bedecked in their family’s tartan), community organizations, and the real “hot Scots,” the frisky Scottish terriers, march down King Street while bagpipers played “Scotland the Brave” and other traditional airs.
A “Taste of Scotland” reception hosted the evening before by The Campagna Center had guests sampling varieties of the motherland’s milk, scotch, at the George Washington Masonic Memorial where plans for next year’s festivities were already well underway!
