The Earth Day Network honored Lisa Jackson, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator, with its first-ever Women and the Green Economy Leadership Award at Tuesday’s Climate Leadership Gala fundraiser. Held in the EPA Atrium of the Ronald Reagan Building, the event featured guest speakers and performers including Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, actress Bo Derek, and singer-pianist Vanessa Carlton; and marked the end of the first day of Carbon War Room’s Creating Climate Wealth Summit
The two-day summit united industry, finance, government, non-profit and scientific leaders from across the world in DC to address the development of a green economy.
Reflecting on her award, Jackson emphasized that as Mothers, “women have a special role to play in reminding [Americans]” that a green economy is both “good economics and very good preventive medicine.”  Or, as Earth Day Network President Kathleen Rogers put it when introducing Jackson’s award: “To take license [from a famous JFK quote, we believe] our problems are man-made, therefore they may be solved by women.”
