Philanthropic Foodies: Taste of the Nation

Swimsuit season may be well on its way, but diet and exercise advice were nowhere to be found at the National Building Museum for Monday night’s annual Taste of the Nation benefit for Share Our Strength. Noted one veteran guest, “You have to be strategic to try all the food here! Remember to come with an empty stomach, pace yourself, and take breaks.”

Philanthropic foodies gathered to graze and nibble on delicious samples courtesy of more than 80 of DC’s premier chefs, restaurants, mixologists, and wine bars.

The 2012 extravaganza was a feast to remember not only because of the bountiful amount of tasting and drinking offered, though. This year, participants voted for a “people’s choice dish” by tipping their favorite dish, dessert, or drink.

In the words of Taste of the Nation DC Chef Council member Victor Albisu, Monday night’s event is undoubtedly “the best event in DC every year! Our goal is to spread the word about childhood hunger.”

Taste of the Nation Washington DC supports Share Our Strength’s nationwide campaign to end childhood hunger by 2015. Local beneficiaries of the event included the Capital Area Food Bank, DC Hunger Solutions, and Mary’s Center.
