Wonderful Wine & Food at National Harbor

 by Pete Waters

The 4th annual National Harbor Wine and Food Festival was all about the simple pleasures: good food, good drinks and good times. Last weekend’s annual festival brought out the area’s best chefs, vintners, brewers and bakers to give DC a taste of the good life.

In addition to presentations by celebrity chefs such as Capital Cooking’s Lauren DeSantis and a demonstration by the District’s own Mary Amons on “Feeding the Masses,” the event featured scores of restaurateurs, confectioners, and culinary artists providing samples of just about every imaginable category of delicacy, from braised brisket to gourmet brie, Guinness-flavored gelato to sweet potato cake with cream cheese icing.  On the liquid side, choices ranged from fine wines to premium cognac, Stella Artois beer to Jeremiah Weed Spiked Cola-in-a-can.

And what made these flavors even better to savor?  A portion of the weekend’s proceeds served to benefit D.C. Central Kitchen.
