24 Hours: The Hamilton Officially Opens

That 24 hour oasis of awesomeness we told you about a few weeks ago has now officially opened.  What makes it official?! Officials, of course.  Mayor Vincent Gray, Council Chairman Kwame Brown, Councilmembers Jack Evans and Vincent Orange were among those on hand to make stirring speeches and cut the ceremonial ribbon as The Hamilton opened with a breakfast Monday morning.

What was once a department store – and later became a Borders bookstore – now is a truly one-of-a-kind 24 hour playground of music and food that employs some 400… and seems to be the postervenue for the city’s tax increment financing program (TIFF).

“Having a place like this… isn’t that going to contribute to us being able to be a place that never sleeps [New York], that attracts people in to the downtown area, that attracts people from outside the city, to come into the District of Columbia no matter what day of the week, no matter what time it is,” said Mayor Gray.  “And what an extraordinary time they will have!”
