National Cherry Blossom Fest Goes Online with its First Virtual Festival

Think Stay-at-Home orders are going to make you miss the cherry blossoms this year? The National Cherry Blossom Festival announced an all-new virtual Festival experience, accessible from the Festival website this year.  So no matter where you have to be, blossom season has begun!

“This new online experience brings the Festival to you and provides a way to enjoy springtime together while being apart,” says Festival President and CEO Diana Mayhew. “The Festival team is rooted in our commitment to honor our traditions. So, the nation’s greatest springtime celebration will continue but it will look different this year.”

The Festival’s online experiences are possible due to a partnership with VIVA Creative, a leading Metro DC live events producer and creative agency.

Among the highlights of this year’s virtual festival are:

  • a visually stunning video of the just-blossoming cherry trees with a tour of the Tidal Basin by a National Park Service park ranger. In the video, visitors travel around the tidal basin while hearing about the gift of the trees and the Festival’s longstanding friendship with Japan over the life of the Festival…
  • a Blossom Kids page, where children of all ages will find activities like learn how to create Blossom-related memes, arts and crafts, and more…
  • a special presentation of a compilation of past National Cherry Blossom Festival Blossom Parades…
  • the 24/7 live #BlossomCam that allows everyone to see the cherry trees without going to the Tidal Basin…
  • qnd the Festival’s online auction — traditionally launched during the annual Pink Tie Party — lets you support the Festival with options to bid on local sports events, signed memorabilia, jewelry, health and well-being experiences, and more. The auction is online through April 12, 2020, with all proceeds supporting the Festival and its mission.

The Festival website also features videos of performers originally scheduled as part of the 2020 Festival, allowing audiences around the world to share in the spirit of this uplifting event, even from afar.
