The Most Merry Event of the Year: The District’s Holiday #Gala
Now in its 7th year, the District Holiday Gala remains one of DC’s most exciting parties of the holiday season. This year’s event featured an open bar, Whistle Pig Rye Whiskey tasting and dancing (like visions of sugar plums) to the sounds of DJ STiRRD and DJ BEACH in the sights of glistening holiday displays.
There were several thrilling additions, to this year’s gala including, Aerialist Morgana Alba, a Caricaturist, expansive space with fun activities like human-size Jenga, and a selfie-station (of course).
Popular performer, Ian Thomas played the GALA again this year, bringing his soulful acoustics and fantastic covers to party-goers. This year Thomas was featured in the main room, which did take away somewhat from the intimacy and romantic environment of last year’s “Hush Room”.
During this festive evening at Josephine Butler Mansion, guests toasted to Horton’s Kids and a very merry holiday season and enjoyed a night of swirling gowns and perfect playlists. Funds raised help Horton’s Kids meet the needs of the children living in Ward 8 through wrap-around services, from academic programs to healthy meals.
Additionally, Fashionista Morgan Fykes and guests nominate #GALA’s Best Dressed. These sharp, suave and sexy party-goers took the spotlight after being announced.
Holiday cheermeisters, especially those representing generous sponsor Union Social, helped to continue the giving spirit traditionally to The District’s Holiday Gala.
This year’s GALA set the bar high for next year’s event. With short bathroom lines, more bars and creatively gorgeous decorations (we especially like the sassy notes hanging on the dance floor), #GALA is intimate enough for a date but wild enough for last hoorah with friends before the winter break.
