Glowbar Promotes Sun Safety During Melanoma Awareness Month & New Partnership
In recognition of Melanoma Awareness Month this May, skincare brand Glowbar announced a new philanthropic initiative in partnership with the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) and celebrity esthetician Ian Michael Crumm. The collaboration supports the MRF’s 2025 #GetNaked campaign, which focuses on prevention, early detection, and public education about melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer.
Glowbar marked the launch of this campaign with a special event on May 2, hosted by Glowbar Founder and CEO Rachel Liverman alongside Crumm. The evening included light bites, refreshments, and an introduction to Glowbar’s yearlong commitment to sun safety and skin health.

“We have a unique opportunity to educate thousands of people about their skin on a regular basis,” Liverman said. “At Glowbar, we use our platform to promote sun safety and skin protection — and the easiest way to do that is with SPF.”
As part of its partnership, Glowbar has pledged a monetary donation to the Melanoma Research Foundation and committed to increasing daily sunscreen use in the U.S. from 13.5% to 15% by 2026 — a goal that translates to reaching an additional 5 million people. According to the MRF, roughly 20% of Americans will develop skin cancer before the age of 70, yet consistent sunscreen use remains low.
“Melanoma is highly preventable and treatable when detected early,” said James Merrick, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at MRF. “Glowbar’s support is making a meaningful difference in our awareness efforts year-round.”

Throughout the month of May, Glowbar is offering free EltaMD sunscreen applications at all 19 of its studios, including its DC location, with no appointment required. Every Glowbar facial concludes with sunscreen application, but the brand is extending this protection to walk-in guests during the month as part of its awareness campaign.
To further support sun safety education, all Glowbar clients this May will receive a pamphlet featuring skin protection tips from Crumm, the 2025 spokesperson for the #GetNaked campaign. The information encourages monthly self-exams and annual visits to a dermatologist for professional screenings.
“Monthly facials are a great way to keep an eye on your skin, but they’re not a substitute for professional skin checks,” Crumm said. “The ideal skincare routine combines regular Glowbar visits with at-home checks and an annual dermatologist appointment.”
