9th Edition of DC’s Dîner en Blanc Pops Up at RFK Stadium
DC experienced the 9th iteration of its pop-up French-inspired white party on Saturday night. The surprise location… RFK Stadium!
Thousands of guests wore their whitest of whites for a magical evening of dining, socializing, and celebrating with music, entertainment, and dancing. With white tables, chairs, and table décor in tow, guests descended upon the RFK grounds for the near-annual ritual of setting up an al fresco spread for a fanciful night.
And while one might think that after several years the excitement of planning, prepping, and posting up for this major spectacle might lose its luster, even after nine years, the outfits and tablescapes didn’t disappoint! A big part of the fun is seeing the elaborate tablescapes and inventive costumes! And the location of this year’s famous white party was special as well; a final tribute to one of Washington’s most iconic structures, RFK Stadium, which will undergo a massive demolition this Fall.
From the ceremonial waving of the napkin to signal the start of the meal to the lighting of the sparklers to conclude the feast — everything in between and all of the revelry long after — guests experienced the 9th Dîner en Blanc to the fullest. In addition to savoring their meals and tablemates, attendees enjoyed a cadre of musicians and artists, as well as a DJ, and an official afterparty. Surprises just kept popping up all through the night!
“We try to change things up each year to make Le Diner in Blanc fresh for returning guests while keeping the essence of the true French picnic as the core of this iconic event,” said Linda Davis, president of The Davis Group and co-producer of Le Diner en Blanc-Washington in partnership this year with EventsDC.
“This event has become the urban picnic of the year in Washington, DC that features a social gathering where fashion, good food, and most importantly good company meet. Getting all dressed up to attend a dinner à la française where conversation and champagne are essential while the sea of people all adorned in white creates images that are instantly Instagram-able.”
