Blue Point Brewing Company Gets DC ‘Toasted’
There’s nothing quite like a cold beer during the summer.
On Saturday, Blue Point Brewing Company, which is based in Long Island, New York, arrived in Washington, DC for one of its stops on the Toasted Tour. The hours-long festival was a relaxing and fun way to celebrate the beginning of the lazy days of the summer season.
There was plenty of beer to go around, especially for VIP guests. Drinks included the Rastafa Rye, which tasted like Russian black bread and Toxic Sludge Black, which was reminiscent to (surprisingly) coffee. However, some of the beers were light in flavor and appropriate for hot weather. Examples included Hoptical Illusion and Double Blonde. However, Toasted Lager tasted like a beer that is more appropriate for the fall season because it tasted like pumpkin.
A prominent guest, Jeremy Ford (winner of season 13 of “Top Chef”), appeared at the Toasted Tour to do cooking demos, which included how to make aioli and getting the crowd excited over Gulf shrimp and the use of bacon in one of his dishes. Both dishes he made in his cooking demos included some form of beer from Blue Point Brewing Company.
Before beginning to cook, Ford said “Let’s drink first. Salud!”
The Toasted Tour brought the beach to the District, giving guests the opportunity to play with frisbees, stacking blocks, and bean bags. If Jeremy Ford’s culinary offerings weren’t enough food to partake in, there were also two food trucks, Far East Taco Grille and Capital Chicken & Waffles.
Leaving the Toasted Tour event was bittersweet — a return to normal life — but the departing guests end up leaving with good memories… and maybe a little bit toasted.
