What's Up With Guam?!

by Casey Valerie Linsey

As they say in Chamorro, the native language of Guam, Hafa Adai or, informally, What’s up?

Well, it wasn’t a compromise on the debt ceiling that was going on Friday afternoon in the Cannon House Office Building, but both sides of the aisle were able to take a little breather from the workload on Capitol Hill to celebrate the annual Guam Liberation Day.

Hosted by Guam’s Congressional Delegate, the Honorable Madeleine Bordallo and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Congressional Delegate, the Honorable Gregorio Kilili Sablan, the party included unique performances by the Kutturan Chamorro dancers, Chamorro food, and lots of dancing.

*This year marks the 67th anniversary of the celebration of Guam’s liberation from Japanese occupation following a bitter three-week campaign that returned the island nation to the American Administration.
