Short 30-minute, interactive mystery!
Just in time for Halloween on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, October 21, 22, and 23, 2020, join Picnic Theatre Company online for an interactive, 30-minute mystery encounter with O. Henry, one of America’s foremost story writers of the early 20th century and the master of surprise endings. In this short story, two strangers meet in a park. After the story is performed live, you and fellow audience members choose their fate and how the story ends! Small group shows limited to a maximum of 20 online participants per show. The first five ticket holders for each show will receive a line to perform in the play (optional), emailed in advance.

VeVe Marley is a D.C.-based singer/songwriter and guitarist whose music blends elements of folk, Afrobeat, R&B and hip-hop to create dreamy, soulful vibes while speaking on issues of identity, spirituality, racism and the Black experience. Marley has performed and recorded since 2013. Her most recent project, with her band VeVe and Tha Rebels, is entitled “The EP.”

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ first-ever Education Artist-in-Residence, Emmy Award®–winning writer and New York Times best-selling author and illustrator Mo Willems, and musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) invite you to express yourself in a different way this Election Night with DEMOCRACY DOODLE 2020.
On the important night of November 3rd, important screens will be filled with important pundits opining on this important election—and you might want to take a break from it.
So, find some paper, markers, and loved ones and click on to the Kennedy Center website starting at 7pm ET for a series of doodle exercises led by Mo Willems accompanied by performances by members of the NSO.
Democracy and doodles are both forms of self-expression worthy of celebration.

A vocal music major in jazz under the direction of Professor Calvin Jones at the University of the District of Columbia, Martin was a finalist in the London International Vocalist Competition and has written, directed and produced music programs for D.C. Public Schools and Montgomery County Public Schools. She was contributing composer for the PBS documentary Revolution ’67 by Jerome and Marylou Bongiorno. She has released two albums: Hide (2005) and See Hear, Love… (2011).

Washington National Opera Marian Anderson Award Concert: Will Liverman in Recital

Named for the groundbreaking African American contralto, the Marian Anderson Vocal Award recognizes a young American singer in opera, oratorio, or recital repertory. In addition to the award given annually by the Washington National Opera and the Kennedy Center, the recipient also receives a residency at Washington’s Duke Ellington School of the Arts and a recital presented by the Washington National Opera. This year’s winner, baritone Will Liverman, has quickly gained a reputation for his compelling performances, with significant debuts on stages such as the Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Seattle Opera, Opera Philadelphia, and more.

Kennedy Center Chamber Players

Comprised of titled players of the National Symphony Orchestra, this acclaimed ensemble has positioned itself in the upper echelons of chamber artistry. In this exclusive live event, they present two Beethoven masterworks: the “Ghost” Piano Trio in D major, Op. 70, and the “Kreutzer” Sonata.

Local artist, Marcella Kriebel, will lead a watercolor painting class where students will receive instruction on how to paint a custom-designed illustration featuring a floral garden theme in a nod to the Jugendstil artistic movement. Tickets include all materials and instruction.
AR Workshop Alexandria will co-host a “Chunky Blankets & Brews” class from 12PM to 1PM where guests are guided through the step-by-step hand knitting process to start making a chunky blanket. Tickets, which can be purchased here, are $85 per person and include a complimentary drink and all materials and instruction to make a 40×50 blanket.
