Join Friends of the National Zoo Thursday, December 12 from 6-9 p.m. to enjoy unlimited samples from 40 local breweries, all under the beautiful lights of Washington, D.C.’s favorite holiday tradition, ZooLights. For one night only, guests will have special access to animals at the Zoo’s exhibits and animal houses, which normally are closed during ZooLights hours.

Panda Claws will mingle and pose for photos with crowds, while performers, such as carolers and a capella singers, will entertain guests. With pint glasses brimming, guests will stroll around the Zoo, admiring new light installations, including luminescent animal lanterns and a dreamy art installation, Entre les rangs, from Montreal.

BrewLights attendees will warm up while feasting on chocolate creations at a custom s’mores station, sponsored by Carvana. Snacks like popcorn and pretzels will be offered to complement the region’s best brews.

Dec 14 @ 10:00 AM – 5:00 AM

Russian Winter Festival

Saturday, December 14, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday, December 15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

An annual holiday favorite! Hillwood celebrates the holidays in Old Russian style. A fun play based on traditional Russian stories of Grandfather Frost and the Snow Maiden will be performed for the festival again this year. After each performance, families can meet Grandfather Frost, Russia’s Santa Claus, and take pictures with him. While lively Russian folk music enlivens the day, a hands-on art activity will allow visitors of all ages to create their own kokoshnik, a lady’s headdress, or traditional Russian gentleman’s hat. Shopping and festive dining from Merriweather To Go round out this day of family fun.

All of Hillwood’s 2019 festivals are supported by a grant from the Sally Foss and James Scott Hill Foundation. All exhibitions and programs are funded in part by the U.S. Commission of the Fine Arts through the National Capital Arts and Cultural Affairs program.

$18, $15 seniors, $12 Hillwood members, $10 students, $5 children (ages 6-18), free for children under age 6.

MATZOBALL @ Ultrabar
Dec 24 @ 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM

This year will mark the 33rd year that Jewish singles and their friends come together in one place for what is considered the nation’s #1 holiday party, the MATZOBALL. The MATZOBALL will be held in select cities around the country, making it the event of the year. This year, they have partnered with the organization Gift of Life Marrow Registry, providing attendees with the chance to save a life this Hanukkah. This is a fun annual bash that singles will not want to miss out on. Whether meeting up for a fun-filled night, or finding someone that turns out to be their soul mate, MATZOBALL has a long reputation of bringing Jewish singles together.

By partnering with Gift of Life Marrow Registry, MATZOBALL is giving people the option to help those who have blood cancer. The organization will have a table set up at the events and those who would like to be potential lifesavers can easily join the marrow registry with a simple cheek swab. At some point, they may be contacted regarding being a match for someone who needs a blood stem cell or marrow transplant.
