On June 17, the Embassy of Sweden will host a virtual artist talk with Swedish photographer Helene Schmitz about her exhibition “Dreamland,” currently on display in House of Sweden. The conversation will focus on Schmitz’s artistic practice and how art can shape and influence society. “Dreamland” is a photographic account of the extraction and depletion of natural resources, and consists of two photography series that examine human-induced changes in bedrock and forest in Sweden. Throughout the month of June, images from “Dreamland” are also projected on the glass facades of House of Sweden as part of the Focus on the Story International Photo Festival.

The Tea: Navasha Daya
In this online series, women musicians perform original work via livestream on the first Friday of the month. Each session includes a short interview, conducted over a cup of tea that explores the artist’s creative process. The Tea proudly welcomes Navasha Daya in September. Navasha Daya is a gifted recording and performing artist, songwriter/singer, composer, producer, arranger, choreographer, curator and cultural arts activist who is known as a breathtaking performer. She has inspired women around the world, charting at #2 on Japan’s jazz and dance iTunes charts numerous times. Daya’s most recent album was listed as one of the 50 best soul albums of 2016 by Soultracks. Her impact on the world also reaches far beyond the stage and walls of the recording studio. Daya is an artist with a purpose; she is the cofounder and director of the Healing & Performing Arts of the Youth Resiliency Institute.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show 45th Anniversary Spectacular Tour is coming to Washington D.C. on Halloween!
Do the Time Warp again with Events DC and fellow fans! The special limited-engagement tour is hosted by the original ‘Brad Majors’ Barry Bostwick (“Oh Brad!”) on Halloween night this year. The screening of the original unedited movie will include a live shadow cast and, of course, full audience participation. Attendees will have the chance to take photos with Barry Bostwick and have personal items autographed. Costumes are encouraged for the extra special costume contest during the event.
