CapitalBop’s Traveling Loft presents Noah Haidu Quartet
Nov 23 @ 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM

CapitalBop continues its FALL 19 season with a special Traveling Loft presentation of the Noah Haidu Quartet and Kris Monson’s Suite for Charlottesville on Saturday, Nov. 23, picking up on the momentum from a sold-out concert last month featuring the legendary Fred Frith.

This month’s Traveling Loft, in the black-box theater at 1358 Florida Ave. NE, presents a mix of elder master artists and young up-and-comers. Haidu, a rising star on New York City’s straight-ahead jazz scene, brings a band featuring the veteran saxophonist Gary Thomas (who has worked with Jack DeJohnette, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Pat Metheny), drummer John Davis (a sideman for Cassandra Wilson and Leslie Odom, Jr.) and the legendary bassist Buster Williams, whose career has included stints with some of the most immortal names in jazz.

Kris Monson, a young bassist hailing from Virginia, will bring a band full of New York’s rising stars: Alex Hamburger (flute), Jasper Dutz (bass clarinet), Guy Moskovich (piano) and Jongkuk Kim (drums) — plus a couple of hard-hitting veterans from Monson’s native Charlottesville, guitarist Jamal Millner and trumpeter John D’earth.

This concert is the most recent in CapitalBop’s marquee Traveling Loft series, which places nationally touring artists in unconventional venues around the District. This installment will take place at a theater and artist space that many fans of the D.C. theater scene — and attendees of CapitalBop shows past — might find familiar.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the first set begins at 8. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door; students get $5 off the price of their admission. The show is all-ages.

Oyster Oyster Roast @ Estadio
Nov 29 @ 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Set to be one of 2019’s most exciting restaurant openings, the sustainable, seasonal and plant-centric Oyster Oyster from restaurateur Max Kuller, Chef Rob Rubba and barman Adam Bernbach is previewing their forthcoming concept with a new pop-up later this month. On Black Friday, November 29 from noon to 3pm, the trio will host “Oyster Oyster Roast” – a family-style oyster pan roast party at its sister restaurant Estadio complete with roasted oysters, oyster mushrooms, Oyster Mary cocktails and natural wines.
After announcing Oyster Oyster one year ago this month, Rubba, Bernbach and Kuller are thrilled to invite the public to another preview pop-up of the restaurant, set to open soon, in early winter 2019. They are embracing winter weather by shining the spotlight on one of the season’s most comforting oyster-centric dishes – the oyster pan roast. Traditionally a decadently creamy oyster stew, Chef Rubba’s version is vegan save for the oysters themselves, subbing in a pumpkin pecan “cream” made with a house toasted pecan ‘milk’ giving the broth a velvety, rich texture while remaining dairy-free.
For just $30 (plus tax and gratuity), diners can enjoy a four-course family-style feast, featuring Oyster Pan Roast with pumpkin pecan “cream,” chili oil and herbs;  Slow-Roasted Oyster Mushrooms marinated in garlic and warm spices; a Kale and Sunflower Caesar salad, featuring a vegan dressing made with sunflower seeds; and homemade Sourdough Bread with seaweed butter.
Beverages will be available a la carte, featuring an Oyster Oyster Mary from Bernbach; and several natural wines by the glass and bottle, hand-picked by Kuller.
“Oyster Oyster Roast” reservations are limited and available on Resy at https://resy.com/cities/dc/estadio?date=2019-11-29.
Oyster Oyster will continue hosting subsequent pop-ups to share their journey with hungry Washingtonians. For more information, please follow them on Instagram at @oysteroysterdc.
