Oct 1 @ 10:00 PM – Oct 2 @ 12:00 AM

The International Spy Museum will host our next Witness to History event: The Investigation of Robert Hanssen, on October 1, 2013. The event will focus on notorious ex-FBI agent and Russian spy, Robert Hanssen, who sold high-level U.S. secrets to the former Soviet Union and Russia for over 20 years. Thanks to the collective efforts of the FBI, CIA, Department of State, and the Justice Department, Hanssen was arrested in 2001 and convicted of espionage.

Witness to History: The Investigation of Robert Hanssen will feature a panel of experts with firsthand knowledge about this complex case.
Panelists: Mike Rochford, (ret.) FBI Section Chief, Russian Overseas Espionage

The Museum’s Witness to History program—generously funded by Target—began in June 2011 with a presentation by former Dallas (TX) Homicide Detective Jim Leavelle. Now in his 90s, Leavelle recounted his experience as the detective assigned to escort Lee Harvey Oswald, the suspect accused of assassinating President John F. Kennedy, on the day Oswald himself was shot and killed. Since the inaugural Witness to History event, six more have been presented on topics ranging from the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, to serial killers—specifically the case of the Green River Killer. Video recordings and photographs from the events are available to view on our website.

Admission is free and this event is open to the public. Space is limited; registered guests will be seated on a first-come, first-served basis. Register by September 27, 2013. 14th Annual Oktoberfest @ Shirlington Village
Oct 5 @ 4:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Prost! Fill up a stein and toast to fall. Celebrating 21 years of brewing more than 200 different styles of beer, Capitol City Brewing Company will host its Fourteenth Annual Mid-Atlantic Oktoberfest at The Village at Shirlington in Arlington on Saturday, October 5 from 12:00 noon – 7:00 p.m. (all beer taps close at 6:00 p.m.).
This year, Capitol City will debut two Oktoberfest additions — the Smoketoberfest and Dr. Punkinstein — as well as the popular Oktoberfest Lager. Beer enthusiasts can listen to live Alpine folk music as they sample select handcrafted beers and enjoy authentic German cuisine from a variety of local vendors and Shirlington Village eateries. Capitol City Brewing Company will also serve traditional German favorites including bratwurst, sauerkraut and the signature fresh soft pretzels.
Following a tradition that started in the early 1880s in Munich, Germany, Capitol City’s Oktoberfest is celebrating its fourteenth triumphant year. Thousands of people from the Mid-Atlantic region attend to sample more than 100 different ales and lagers from over 50 local and international breweries.
Admission for beer drinkers is $25 (one general admission pass per person), which includes a wristband, official tasting glass and 10 drink tickets. Additional drink tickets can be purchased for $1 each with a five ticket minimum. The event is free for non-drinkers and children. Oktoberfest 2013 will be held rain or shine with a limited number of tickets sold at the event.
