The Power of the Pooch

The irony of the Watergate Dogs Calendar cover hits hard when you see how many residents take their four-legged friends for a frolic. Could it be that the historic site doesn’t care for dogs walking on the lawn… or on their wall calendars??

Not at all say most Watergate dog owners. “A pet makes a house a home,” according to calendar organizer Steph Woods, whose Bichon Frise Flake is one of the calendar canines. “But we usually do try to keep off the grass!”

The cause the annual addresses is one they keep close to heart and home as well.

HART, a no-kill animal rescue shelter in Northern Virginia, compiles a similar canine calendar each year to support their efforts. Watergate residents, notorious for pampering their pets, wanted to photograph their own local leash-wearers to benefit HART. The calendar features pooches like Woods’ ‘Flake’, Carol Lascaris‘s Bichon ‘Truffles’, Gigi Winston‘s Cairn Terrior, Jonathan Weinberger‘s ‘Ozzie’ & ‘Napolean’, and Elizabeth & Bob Dole’s ‘Leader’ – who grabbed the coveted December spot.

Who can say ‘No Dogs Allowed’ when the cause is so cute, cuddly and in need of care?
