The Irish Share St. Paddy’s Plans

Pubs, pints, parades and other shamrock shenanigans are coming our way this week, so we asked some local leprechauns to share their favorite St. Patrick’s Day traditions.

“The 11:30 AM Mass at St. Patrick’s (10th St. NW) always brings out the great Irish of the City,” dished Brian Mulholland.  “Then off for a good Irish lunch at the Dubliner!”

“My favorite Irish bar in the city is Hoban’s on Dupont Circle because it is a little more modern than the ‘traditional Irish Bar’ — and is more reminiscent of how the bars actually are in Dublin,” said Vanessa Payne, a true Irish gal with accent and all.  “I’ll be wearing my green ‘Everyone Loves an Irish Girl’ t-shirt.”

“I plan to spend the day at my local pub, Bushwaller’s, in Downtown Frederick, MD,” shared Siobhan Marie Carol Connellan.  “ I’ve haven’t worn green on St. Patrick’s Day since I was a kid. With a name like [mine], I don’t need to prove I’m Irish!  I will, however, sport a Guinness top hat!”

“For us, it’s not just a day, it’s a season and I’m looking forward to watching my daughter do some Irish dancing. I would recommend keeping an eye on the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance Blog to see what locations the kids will be dancing and the adults will be drinking!” Gerry Dunn (aka Potomac Secret Agent) told us.

Local photog and SnarkInfested blogger Pat Ryan had several lucky charms to share.  “I like the usual spots: Dubliner, Irish Times, Four Provinces for drinking, but there are a lot of new Irish places too.  And for something different, remember that, politically, the Irish Prime Minister usually comes to town for lunch with the Speaker of the House and President at the Capitol — that goes back to Tip O’Neill and Reagan — while other Irish politicals do fundraisers in town.”
