While it’s not yet fully re-opened to the public after renovation, Folger Shakespeare Library — home to the world’s largest Shakespeare collection — has welcomed visitors back to its award-winning historic stage with a performance of The Winter’s Tale that is entirely unexpected.
The Folger Shakespeare Library (almost presciently) closed its historic building for a scheduled renovation in March 2020 and now, after over three years of “On the Road” programming, DC’s Elizbethan-style theatre — and new public spaces — are ready to host performances, concerts, and readings starting on November 17, 2023.
Throughout the month of April, the Folger Theatre will be Searching for Shakespeare: Celebrating 400 Years of Shakespeare’s First Folio — which is actually a citywide celebration in partnership with DC Public Library. The month of Bard-filled bliss features a historic exhibition of the First Folio, a DC-wide Scavenger Hunt, Shakespeare’s Birthday Lecture, family programs, and the presentation of a world premiere performance work.
