Michaelangelo’s Masterpiece on DC Display

Proof — in stone — that Obama’s re-election can cause history to repeat itself.

For the second time EVER, Michelangelo’s “David-Apollo” masterpiece is being publicly showcased — through the inauguration and until March — at the National Gallery of Art.  The sculpture, created in 1530, first came to the gallery almost 75 years ago, in 1949.

Its presence actually serves as the opening of a yearlong celebration of Italian culture with exhibits and events of art, science, music, design and innovation in more than 30 U.S. cities.

The “David-Apollo” statue is on loan from the Museo Nazionale del Bargello in Florence and is not to be confused with Michaelangelo’s other famous “David,” carved three decades earlier and standing remarkably taller.

Because, even the President knows that DC is serious about those height restrictions!
