Gray Makes Statehood an Inaugural Priority

Vincent Gray was sworn in as the District of Columbia’s sixth Mayor on Sunday, January 2nd, 2010.  In his words to the audience at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center he reaffirmed his quest for DC statehood, stating “we won’t settle for disenfranchisement.”

According to Gray, “America will only truly have ‘equal justice for all’ when DC residents are included in national democracy.”

A letter of congratulations from President Obama to DC – and Mayor Gray – on Inauguration Day made no mention of voting rights.
