Friends & Family Opening of Policy

The neighborhood was in need of a place like this.

Last night we were invited to check out Policy, the new restaurant and nightspot near 14th and U Streets NW. It was an impromptu affair – the place had just received its liquor license – so the party was on!

Downstairs decor is retro diner, but upstairs is more playful – or chaotic. Chandelier lighting in all shapes and sizes, some covered with lampshades… graffiti covered walls... psychedelic lounge furniture coverings… As one friend said to me, it’s perfect for “Policy” because it’s a mesh of concepts and sporadic ideas thrown together – like political policy!

We can’t fully judge the place on its Friends and Family opening, but we have to give it two thumbs up for serving cocktails in pint glasses and announcing plans to allow seating in all lounge spaces without a minimum or bottle charge.
The crowd was great – especially for impromptu – and I know Policy has good future potential, if for no other reason than the location. My favorite brunch spot, St. Ex, is just across the street!
