Notable as the Founder and current Editor-At-Large of K Street Magazine, Kate started the site while serving as Miss District of Columbia 2006 and competing in Miss America (2007). Although its origins are unknown, National Rum Day (August 16th) is a widely celebrated day which gives the rum industry and its respective brands a unique opportunity to educate consumers while promoting and celebrating the variety of the this sugar cane based spirit.  Rum Day DC will host multiple events for rum lovers and enthusiasts in honor of National Rum Day.  The three-day celebration kicks off with the festive multi-destination Rum Runner Party Bus on August 16th, the 2nd event is The Speakeasy Rum-B-Que at Gibson on August 17th, and the final event is the Poolside Punch Party & Competition at Capital Liaison Hotel on August 18th.

Four destinations for specialty rum cocktails and delectable noshes have been selected. Each location will supply patrons with hors d’ouvres and a featured rum specialty cocktail, while highlighting popular menu items.
