Back by popular demand, Early Mountain Vineyards will host its Second Annual Oyster Festival on March 8, alongside Best of Virginia partner, Chatham Vineyards, featuring oysters from the Eastern Shore.

The event includes Virginia wines from Chatham Vineyards, which will complement local shellfish set up on two Old Jon Boats; one for roasting oysters and clams, and the other with a raw bar featuring both bay and ocean side oysters. The steamed and roasted oysters are wild and come from Magotha Bay on the southern tip of the Eastern Shore. The raw bar will feature sweeter varieties of aqua-cultured oysters from the bayside, specifically from Hungars Creek and Church Creek, as well as saltier seaside varieties from Magotha Bay. The clams are also sourced from Hungars Creek. The oyster and clam spread includes all the sides and fixings from Kitchen Catering and Events in Charlottesville including dirty rice and bean jambalaya, ham biscuits, potato salad, hushpuppies, corn on the cob and collard greens. Local band, Peacetime, will play a mix of jazz and soft rock, Motown, and funk tunes. The festival will take place at Early Mountain Vineyards from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

An early admission, VIP event is planned from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. VIP admission includes access to an exclusive oyster educational class featuring oyster specialists Pete Henderson and Hunt Addison. The class will take guests on a tour of the estuarine waters of the Chesapeake Bay and seaside creeks surrounding the Eastern Shore that have been a major provider of shellfish to the United States for hundreds of years. Also included in the VIP ticket is an Early Mountain Vineyards lunch tote and an Oyster Fest t-shirt.

 

Ticket Info: General admission is $85 ($75 for Early Mountain Vineyard Wine Club members) and includes unlimited Eastern Shore oysters, clams & chowder and all the fixings, along with one glass of 2012 Chatham Church Creek Steel Chardonnay in a take home souvenir glass. VIP admission is $95 ($85 for Early Mountain Vineyard Wine Club members) and includes unlimited Eastern Shore oysters, clams & chowder and all the fixings, along with two glasses of 2012 Chatham Church Creek Steel Chardonnay. VIPs will also receive early entrance to our special VIP Oyster event and a fun festival swag bag including an Early Mountain Vineyard lunch tote and an Oyster Fest t-shirt.
