Kate Michael, @kstreetkate, is a Writer/Model/On-Camera Host and Event Emcee. Notable as the Founder and current Editor-At-Large of K Street Magazine, Kate started the site while serving as Miss District of Columbia 2006 and competing in Miss America (2007). Currently, Kate works as a professional spokesperson and model, walking the runway for such industry icons as Valentino, Derek Lam, Naeem Kahn and Oscar de la Renta. Her media portfolio includes a spread in Elle magazine and features on Inside Edition and BBC World News’ “The Real Cities” series. City Year’s annual Idealism in Action Gala showcases how City Year is helping to end the dropout crisis in Washington, DC. The event is on May 8, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium (1301 Constitution Avenue NW).

City Year is an education-focused, nonprofit organization that partners with public schools and teachers to help keep students in school and on track to succeed. In Washington, DC, City Year places 164 young AmeriCorps members who serve as tutors, mentors and role models in 16 schools, reaching more than 4,000 students. The Idealism in Action Gala brings more than 500 business and education leaders together with our young corps members for one of the most energetic and lively gala events in the city!

This year, we are honoring Frank LaPrade with the Lifetime of Idealism Award. Mr. LaPrade is Chief Enterprise Services Officer and Chief of Staff to the CEO at Capital One and is being recognized for his steadfast commitment to charitable and community engagement.
