Join us as renowned artist Faith Ringgold discusses her art, her journey and the political climate of the 1960s. Her inspiring, often humorous, stories will illustrate her life’s work as an artist, activist, author, teacher and parent through the evolution of an incredible body of work. In this lecture, Ringgold begins in the early 1960s with political imagery and firsthand accounts of the Civil Rights movement as portrayed in her “American People” (1963–67) series. Her “Black Light” (1967–71) series as well as political posters and murals will be included. Images such as The Flag is Bleeding (1967), Die (1967), For the Women’s House (1971) and The United States of Attica (1971–72) will be discussed. A Q&A follows the lecture.
