Kate Michael, @kstreetkate, is a Writer/Model/On-Camera Host and Event Emcee. Notable as the Founder and current Editor-At-Large of K Street Magazine, Kate started the site while serving as Miss District of Columbia 2006 and competing in Miss America (2007). Currently, Kate works as a professional spokesperson and model, walking the runway for such industry icons as Valentino, Derek Lam, Naeem Kahn and Oscar de la Renta. Her media portfolio includes a spread in Elle magazine and features on Inside Edition and BBC World News’ “The Real Cities” series. Join in marking 10 years since the monumental totem pole was created for the National Museum of the American Indian’s Washington D.C. museum.

If you haven’t seen it, The Eagle and the Young Chief totem pole resides inside the museum’s soaring entrance in the Potomac Atrium. The carvers, David A. Boxley and his son, David R. Boxley (both Tsimshian), and the Git Hoan Dancers will be on hand to celebrate with dances. The dances tell the history of the Tsimshian First Nation. The choreography features stunning hand-carved masks created by David Boxley Sr. and colorful handmade regalia emblazoned with symbols of Tsimshian culture.
