Join in marking 10 years since the monumental totem pole was created for the National Museum of the American Indian’s Washington D.C. museum.
If you haven’t seen it, The Eagle and the Young Chief totem pole resides inside the museum’s soaring entrance in the Potomac Atrium. The carvers, David A. Boxley and his son, David R. Boxley (both Tsimshian), and the Git Hoan Dancers will be on hand to celebrate with dances. The dances tell the history of the Tsimshian First Nation. The choreography features stunning hand-carved masks created by David Boxley Sr. and colorful handmade regalia emblazoned with symbols of Tsimshian culture.
Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10, 12 and 2 p.m. each day.
