Ball on the Mall Responds to President’s Budget

Just days earlier, President Obama released a budget which cut funding for National Mall restoration efforts.  But Wednesday night at Cities Restaurant, purposeful young professionals couldn’t be deterred.  Fundraising for The Trust for the National Mall was in full force.

The L’Enfant Society, the Trust’s younger set, not only renewed its commitment to raising funds for the Mall’s repair and restoration efforts at this Ball on the Mall kick-off event, but also announced a plan to expand into park servicing around the country, according to Trust President Caroline Cunningham.
“It’s not just sod.  Jefferson was threatening to take a swim in the Potomac,” quipped L’Enfant co-chair David Vennett.  “There is a lot of work to be done, but I am confident that we can do this.”

The Trust for the National Mall received a boost of interest late last year when comedian Jon Stewart announced the organization as the recipient of donations during his Rally to Restore Sanity.  Some $700,000 has been secured toward a goal of over $300 million.
