NMWA Holds Free Community Day, Art Book Fair
As part of the National Museum for Women in the Arts‘ July Free Community Day, exhibits to the collection and galleries were free, as well as admission to the museum’s 3rd annual DC Art Book Fair.
The curated, family-friendly event held in the Great Hall brought together about 40 small presses, artists and more to sell their independently published (largely paper-based) works. It was organized by the DC Art Book Collective, with participants chosen by a panel of judges.
When not shopping for art books, visitors enjoyed free perusal of NMWA’s exhibits, including Ursula von Rydingsvard: The Contour of Feeling on view through July 28, 2019. Her landmark exhibition of expressive cedar sculptures are accompanied by poetic explorations in paper pulp, leather, linen, and other organic materials in this, her first solo exhibition in Washington, D.C.
